Samsung is known to offer smartphones in all budget ranges, attracting many consumers. Recently, Samsung released the Galaxy A55 and now there are new details about the Galaxy M55. Both smartphones offer similar specifications but still, there are some notable differences. In this blog post, we’ll compare these two anticipated smartphones based on information from SamMobile and industry insights.

Expected Similarities Between Samsung Galaxy M55 vs. Galaxy A55

Galaxy M55 and Galaxy A55 are expected to share several internal specifications. However, Samsung does nerf some of the functions on the M series.

  • A 6.6-inch Super AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate.
  • The software will be One UI 6.1 which is based on Android 14 out of the box. However, looking at the previous track record, Galaxy M55 won’t have the full One UI 6 experience. That is the feature of Good Lock Customization or the screen recording.
  • The cameras can remain more or less sma with maybe a difference in the post-processing. A 50 MP main sensor, 12 MP Ultrawide, and a 5 MP Macro lens. Additionally, a selfie shooter of 32 MP resolution can be expected.

Expected Differences Between Samsung Galaxy M55 vs. Galaxy A55

As I mentioned before the Galaxy M55 is seen as a rebranded Galaxy A55. There are still many key differences that the users should be aware of.

According to online leaks, the design of the Galaxy M55 seems to be slightly different. While the A55 has a glass back and flat edges, the M55 seems to have curved edges. This might have been done to reduce the overall product cost.

This one is surprising, as online leaks revealed a different chipset for the M55. It could be powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset instead of the expected Exynos 1380. Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 is quite an older chipset and was released back in 2022. This could mean that the price for this chipset is lower than the newer Exynos chipset. This is the reason why Samsung decided to go with this chipset.

Another cost-cutting measure is omitting the IP67/IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. Moreover, it’s a well-known differentiation factor between the M and A series. However, there should be an IP52 rating for at least a little water splash.

However, in terms of battery, the Galaxy M55 seems to be ahead of the A55. It will boast a 6000 mAh battery which might offer over 1 hour of additional screen time. M series is often advertised as the Monster series because of its bigger battery.

Lastly, the Galaxy M55 won’t be released globally but limited to certain regions like Asia and Latin America. The M series is a budget offering from Samsung and is mostly sold online to save offline costs.

Overall Impression

In my opinion with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, the Samsung Galaxy M55 can be a good contender in the mid-range. If you remember, the Galaxy M34 with Exynos 1280 wasn’t the best performer and was highly criticised by users. It will be interesting to see how the M55 scores and improves in terms of performance and overall experience. Moreover, the price will be another important factor, as Samsung may increase it as they’ve done with the A series this year.
