On the 1st of the month, Paytm generates the Postpaid bill, and it’s time for loan repayment. However, on Friday, after users repaid the Paytm Postpaid loan, they noticed that Paytm removed the Postpaid option from the payment options.

Paytm Postpaid Not Showing in Payment Option

Some users’ accounts even got suspended without any reason. Another user posted a screenshot of a chat with the Paytm customer care. The executive said that the service was down and didn’t reply about its resumption. Additionally, similar posts have flooded X (formerly Twitter) with users tagging the official Paytm Care handle.

A lot of the users were using Paytm Postpaid to pay for rent, electricity bills, gas bills, water bills, mobile recharges, etc. And that’s not it, the service was available even on online stores like Flipkart, Meesho, Zomato, Swiggy and more. The sudden stoppage of service has created a huge panic among the users.

What is Paytm Postpaid?

Millions of people have been using the loan service every day since it started back in 2018. Paytm Postpaid is a loan lending service that allows users to buy now and pay later. You can buy goods and services from the Paytm app or offline stores and pay using this option. Also, for using this in offline stores, they should have the Paytm QR code only. Another advantage is there’s no need for any PIN, so the payment happens super fast.

Paytm Postpaid Active But Not Working

This scenario is true for many users including myself. My Paytm Postpaid Lite account shows active but it is unusable. It’s been only a year of using this service, so this was not expected so soon. And since there are multiple lending partners, it’s not a very consistent experience. Some accounts are getting suspended while others are fine.

Why is Paytm Postpaid Not Working?

The amount of users facing this issue suggests that the reason isn’t incomplete KYC or repayment issues. Some suggest that the lending partners associated with Paytm Postpaid have pulled out from the deal. this can be true and this kind of service is quite risky for the lenders. There have been cases of users not paying the loan on time or skipping the payment altogether. And unlike other types of loans, here users are mostly students with no credit cards or employment.

Update as of 6/12/2023

Paytm has temporarily halted its buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) service Postpaid for existing users, as lending partners have become cautious about the fintech partnerships. This could be because the Reserve Bank of India has raised the risk weightage against any unsecured loans from 100% to 125%. This change requires the NBFC to set aside more buffer capital against the risks involved.

According to sources, Aditya Birla Capital which is a major partner of Paytm, seems to have pulled out of the Postpaid lending partnership. They provided my Postpaid account as well, so this development could be a possible reason behind the halting of the service.

When will the Paytm Postpaid Service Resume?

Seeing the user’s comments and screenshots, the issue seems to be widespread. Moreover, looks like every Paytm Postpaid user is facing this issue. Currently, there is no official update from the Paytm company. Also, some users have speculated that the loan partners have pulled back from the service. But only official updates can confirm any of the speculations.

How To Fix?

If your account is suspended then it can be due to repayment issues. If not, then you must contact the Paytm Care in the Paytm app. Another way is to reach out to them on social media handles like X and tag them in your post. Some people have suggested to check if the KYC is done properly. However, Paytm is cutting down the small loan service so many users have come under suspension.
